Product information

The best laptop for you depends on the study program you’re following and the specific requirements set by your school or university. Some programs – like graphic design or engineering – need a powerful laptop with a dedicated graphics card and lots of memory. To make the right choice, we recommend starting from the ordering page of your school or university. There you’ll find a selection of laptops that have been specifically chosen to match the needs of your study program.

At Academicshop.com, you can choose to buy or rent your device. Both options come with the same professional service and warranty.

  • Buying is more cost-effective if you plan to use the laptop for several years.

  • Renting is ideal if you prefer monthly payments and want a new device after your studies.

Rental plans start from €25.14/month, including a full-featured business-grade laptop, 3-year warranty, and on-site repair service.

Whatever you choose, you’re always assured of a high-quality, high-performance laptop.

The ideal screen size depends on how you’ll be using your laptop. Here’s an overview based on usage intensity:

For light tasks (14-inch recommended)

Perfect for students who mainly use web applications, word processing, email, presentations, and online classes. Lightweight and easy to carry. Ideal for programs like languages and Literature, Social Sciences, or Law

For medium tasks (14-16 inch)

Great for multitasking, working with large documents, data analysis, or standard photo editing.

  • A solid balance between portability and performance
  • Suitable for programs like Economics, Teachers training, Applied Psychology, Computer science, and more

 For heavy tasks (16-inch recommended)

Essential for demanding software like AutoCAD, Blender, Premiere Pro, SPSS, MATLAB, or AI tools

  • Powerful CPU + GPU + large RAM capacity
  • A must for students in STEM, Architecture, Audiovisual design, or Data science

Academic Software is a platform where students can access all the software they need for their studies, all in one place:

  • Download software safely and at a student-friendly price

  • Tailored to your study program

  • Simple login via your school account

When ordering your student laptop, you can also choose from a wide range of accessories — like a wireless mouse or laptop bag.
Want to set up a productive workspace at home or in your dorm? Consider a monitor, docking station, keyboard, or external hard drive.

All accessories are delivered together with your laptop for a smooth start to the academic year.

You can find the full range on your personalized order page or via Academicshop.com.

At academicshop.com, you can choose between Windows 11 Pro laptops and Chromebooks. Both operating systems have their own advantages, depending on your study program and how you plan to use your device.

Windows 11 Pro is the most powerful and flexible option we offer. It’s suitable for nearly all higher education programs — especially if you need to work with specialized software such as SPSS, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, or programming languages. Windows is compatible with almost all tools used by colleges and universities, and gives you maximum freedom to personalize your laptop to your needs.

Chromebooks, on the other hand, are lightweight, fast, and ideal for cloud-based work. They’re perfect for basic tasks like taking notes, attending online classes, browsing, emailing, and using Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, etc.). A Chromebook is a smart choice for study programs that don’t require heavy software, and for students who value simplicity and ease of use.

Want to be sure you’re choosing the right operating system? Check the recommendations on your school’s order page. There you’ll find clear advice on which type of device and operating system best suits your study program.

The size of your laptop has a big impact on your overall user experience. It determines how easy it is to carry and how comfortable it is to work on.

If you often take your laptop to class or the library, a compact 14-inch model is ideal. These devices are lightweight, fit easily into a backpack, and typically weigh just 1.3 to 1.5 kg. They offer enough screen space for most tasks while remaining portable and flexible.

If you mainly use your laptop at home or in your student room — and frequently work with multiple windows or visual applications — a larger screen size, like 16 inches, offers more comfort. You get more screen space for multitasking, graphic work, or technical applications. Keep in mind, though, that these models are heavier and less mobile.

So, think about where you’ll mostly be using your laptop. Portability calls for a smaller size, work comfort benefits from a larger screen.

For AI, graphic design, 3D modeling, or technical studies, choose a laptop with:

  • At least a Ryzen 7 processor

  • 16 to 32 GB RAM

  • A dedicated graphics card (e.g., NVIDIA RTX)

Examples: ASUS TUF FA608PM or HP ZBook G11A, both designed to handle demanding applications smoothly and efficiently.

Choosing the right student laptop starts with answering a few simple but essential questions:

  1. What programs will you be using? Every study program has its own technical requirements. A communication or psychology student has different needs than someone in a STEM or design field. Through Academicshop.com, you get access to a range of devices carefully selected in collaboration with your college or university. That way, you're sure your laptop can handle the software you'll need during your studies.
  2. Which programs will you be using? Will you mainly work with Office, a browser, and a learning platform like Toledo or Canvas? Then a basic laptop with an entry-level processor such as AMD Ryzen 3 or 5 and 8 GB RAM will do the job. Are you using more demanding software like Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, MATLAB, SPSS or AI tools? Then you’ll need a more powerful configuration: AMD Ryzen 7 or 9, 16 to 32 GB RAM, and a dedicated GPU like an NVIDIA RTX or A-series.
  3. Will you mostly use your laptop in one place or carry it around often? If you commute daily or frequently switch classrooms, a lightweight 14-inch laptop with a slim profile is a smart choice. If you mainly use your laptop at home or in your dorm room, you can go for a bigger and more powerful 16-inch model.
  4. What screen size do you prefer? That depends on your personal preference and the kind of work you do:
  • 14 inch is compact, light, and portable – ideal for note-taking, research, and video classes.
  • 16 inch gives you more screen real estate – great for multitasking, creative projects, and editing images or videos.
  • Want even more comfort at your regular study spot? Combine your laptop with an external monitor and docking station.

In short: The ideal student laptop matches your study program, software needs, and lifestyle. Academicshop.com helps you choose with personalized recommendations tailored to your school and field of study.
